ARTISTS 4 ARTISTS

Saturday 07 November 2009

12pm – Late!

Milton Park Bowling Club, Harare

The month of November has now been claimed as ‘Zimbabwe Musicians’ Month’ in a new artists’ initiative, spearheaded by popular afro diva Busi Ncube.  ARTISTS 4 ARTISTS is it’s brand, and the project is being established to create a platform to raise support for artists in times of need through music performances by top and up&coming musicians of Zimbabwe.

When hard times hit, often the hardest hit are performing artists who have no formal employment structures to assist them through crises that affect their lives from time to time, like anyone else.  Artists4Artists is a self-help initiative which is badly needed.

Organiser Busi Ncube said: “We have sold the idea to several artists who welcome the concept and have agreed to come together for a big first event to get the show on the road.  Depending on the success of this first festival, we hope to be able to establish a fund to help artists in times of personal crisis.  We intend for this to grow into an annual event, which will be held in different cities and towns in following years.”

The inaugural event kicks off on Saturday 07 November at Harare’s Milton Park Bowling Club, and boasts a dazzling line-up of some of the capital’s finest acts – (in alpha order) Adam Chisvo, Alexio Kawara, Andy Brown, Bob Nyabinde, Brian Nanhanga & Shamwari, Busi Ncube & Band Rain, Dumi Ngulube & Amagents, Edith Katiji & So What?, Imbongi Jazz, Mbare Trio, Pastor & Amai Charamba, Philip Svosve & Jabavu Drive, Real Sounds of Africa, Rute Mbangwa, Victor Kunonga and Willis Wataffi Afirika.

It will be a fun-filled day of music, catering for all - families and kids during daylight hours, and party-goers through the evening and into the night.  Music-lovers will enjoy a huge and colourful variety of music in the festival hours of traditional mbira, modern afro, jazz, township, blues, gospel, reggae and rhumba, with top established artists sharing the stage with emerging and fast-rising artists.  There will be a friendly cover charge and music-lovers are invited to come out and be a part of an exciting start to a new development – by artists for artists.
