TUKU – A Close Encounter

Master musician Oliver Mtukudzi returns to The Mannenberg stage in Harare on Thursday 3 February, for another rare acoustic performance, up close and personal with the man himself, in the intimate setting of the popular late night venue in the Fife Avenue Mall.

A new concept to satisfy the demands of his fans in the capital, Oliver’s ‘acoustic’ performance brings him into close proximity with his audience which is so often distanced on a big stage setup.  It’s their chance to catch the finer nuances of his performance, a close-up on guitar work, a shrug of the shoulder, a laugh, a wink of the eye - a chance to get up close before he heads off on various international tours this year.

Opening for the big man on Thursday 3 Feb are up-and-coming young artists John Pfumojena (vocals, mbira) and Ishe Jere (keyb), gifted young men who are following in the footsteps of Tuku and other acclaimed artists of Zimbabwe with a passion for their music and the ability to ‘deliver’.  The opportunity for them to perform on this stage is a chance for them to be exposed to a wider audience, and another step up on the ladder to recognition and acclaim.  Oliver Mtukudzi supports the development of young Zimbabwean artists through the Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton and general encouragement of all artists, willingly sharing his space with them.

For the Thursday 3 February show seating is limited, with doors open from 8pm and the opening act kicking off promptly at 9pm.  Cover charge for this rare and close encounter is US$20.  Be early for the best seats in the house!
