The Arts and Culture Directory – Call for entries

The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) in partnership with Culture Fund of Zimbabwe Trust and the Spanish Embassy is currently updating entries for the 2011 edition of the National Arts and Culture directory which will be published by the end of the year.

The council is making a call to all interested parties in the arts and culture industry to submit entries for the latest edition of the Arts and Culture Directory. The first directory of this kind was compiled and published by NACZ in 2006, and an updated version is now due.

The council has been working with the 2006 edition of the Arts Directory but some of the information is now outdated and needs to be revisited.

The arts and culture sector has for the past few years grown tremendously with many new entrants, both artistes and service providers in the industry. Having witnessed this NACZ realized that there was an urgent need for the compilation of a comprehensive directory of the arts and culture industry
We feel the Arts and Culture Directory will go a long way in providing adequate information on the status of the Arts and Culture Industry in Zimbabwe. This directory will give stakeholders the information that they so require. The directory will also enable different stakeholders in the arts and culture industry to enhance their planning, marketing strategies and to build networks amongst themselves.

The arts and culture directory will be published in both soft and hard copies. Lack of adequate information on the arts in Zimbabwe has resulted in poor marketing of our country and cultural heritage. As a result availability of the directory on the internet will open doors for the marketing of our artistes and cultural products internationally. There is need to take advantage of the communications technologies like the world wide web and embark on a vigorous marketing and promotion of the arts and culture industry.

The directory will include among other things contact details of arts and culture practitioners, promoters, venues, supporters and organisations among others. Unlike the current directory the updated version will also take into account all cultural departments of embassies that are active within the local arts and culture sector.

The Arts and culture directory will be accessed electronically and will be at our missions abroad and at home, embassies, arts promoters, arts associations, libraries, and other institutions in the arts and culture industry.

NACZ calls upon all promoters, artists, venues, embassies, festivals, culture fairs, culture centres, institutions, companies, associations, service providers and any one involved in the Arts and culture industry to submit their contact details to the Head Office of the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe or through the Provincial Offices nationwide. Deadline for submission of contact details is the 7th of July 2010.
Contact details should include: Name, Organisation, Physical and Postal address, telephone, fax, e-mail, website, other contact forms (e.g. skype, facebook, etc.), preferred sector (e.g. dance, theatre, visual arts etc.).
