“Is the involvement of men relevant in the struggle for gender equality?” The Book Café, Fife Ave Mall (upstairs) Thursday 29 April, 2010 – 5.30-7pm Chair: Sally Dura Speakers: Judith Chiyangwa, Godfrey Nengomasha (Padare) In November 2009, Harare arts development organisation Pamberi Trust created a platform for the discussion of gender and women’s issues at The Book Café in Harare. Aimed at contributing to initiatives of advancing gender equality and promoting women’s rights in Zimbabwe, The Book Café Gender Forum has become a popular space for tackling issues of concern guided by audience responses. The Book Cafe Gender Forum is a monthly discussion, targeting human rights activists, members of civic society, women artists and members of the general public. This discussion follows from the concerns raised in last month’s discussion on Zimbabwe marriage laws, where it was noted that when dealing with gender issues there is need to view “men as partners not as enemies”. Can issues of gender equity & equality be dealt with without referring to and involving men? Is there a line at all between gender equity and Women’s rights? On Thursday 29 April 2010, from 5.30-7pm, The Book Café Gender Forum once again seeks to clarify gray areas regarding “gender activism” under the topic “Is the involvement of men relevant in the struggle for gender equality?” The discussion is FREE and all are welcome.
