The Book Café, Fife Ave Mall (upstairs) Thursday 28 Jan 2010 – 5.30-7pm ‘Sisterhood: Redefined’ The Gender Forum begins this year on Thursday 28 January at 5.30pm with another interesting topic for discussion – ‘Sisterhood Redefined’. This discussion follows on some of the issues raised in "Woman to Woman" another discussion held in December 2009. Women face too many challenges as compared to their male counterparts, automatically impacting on how far they can go in terms of social, economic and political advancement. In spite of making a large and magnificent contribution to the world as a whole, women face many negative factors that pull them down, including societal, cultural and religious expectations, and petty jealousies often born from desperate competition and limited access to resources, commonly known as the ‘PHD’ (pull her down) syndrome. There are those who are finding success, and those at the base of the ladder, striving for it. How can these women work together without throwing dust into each other’s eyes? What can women do among themselves to work together, uplift and support each other in both these situations? The Gender Forum - a monthly platform for discussion of gender and women’s issues was created by arts organisation Pamberi Trust at The Book Café in Harare, and aims at contributing to initiatives of advancing gender equality and promoting women’s rights in Zimbabwe. The forum brings to the fore issues which are often brushed aside as trivial and tries to correct misconceptions about and between the sexes. The 5.30pm discussion on Thursday 28 January is free, and all are welcome. ENDS Pamberi Trust |
