THUR 26, 8pm – BOOK CAFE DOUBLE BILL!! - EDITH KATIJI + ‘SO WHAT?’ with PABLO & FRENDZ – a great evening of Zimbabwean music by gifted young artists. Two bands for the price of one!  Come on out!

THU 26, 9.30pm, COLOR BLU featuring DUDU MANHENGA - celebrating ZIMBABWEAN TOWNSHIP JAZZ, with guest artists James Buzuzi (guitar) and Uzanele (vocals) at The Mannenberg.  

SAT 28, 2-7pm, ’16 DAYS CONCERT’ against Violence against Women – 5 hours of great music and poetry by Zimbabwean women artists with a strong message against violence at The Book Café

SAT 28, 10pm, FAITH MANDIPIRA with PABLO & FRENDZ – Part 2 of the ‘16 DAYS CONCERT’  – a new collaboration between long-time jazzists, and a strong message against violence at The Mannenberg.

TUE 01, 8pm, WORLD AIDS DAY COMMEMORATION CONCERT under the theme ‘ Spirit of Hope’ featuring 5 lively music acts to commemorate the Day.

FRI 20- SAT 28, The Mannenberg proudly hosts INTERNATIONAL IMAGES FILM FESTIVAL FOR WOMEN: “TRANSFORMING WOMEN” – Free film screenings at 12.30pm, 3pm, 5.30pm and 8pm (details below)

THUR 26, 8pm – SPECIAL DOUBLE BILL!! - EDITH KATIJI + ‘SO WHAT?’ with PABLO & FRENDZ – a great evening of Zimbabwean music by gifted young artists from diverse music backgrounds - afro traditional with some classic oldies and brand new originals!  Featuring Edith Katiji (bass/vocals) leading So What?! and Pablo with a new jazz collaboration including originals and popular afro standards.  Two bands for one ticket!  Come on out!

THU 26, 5.30pm  ‘HEAR US’ -  ZIMBABWEAN WOMEN SPEAK OUT – a film from IIFF 2009 – followed by discussion.

THU 26, 9.30pm, COLOR BLU featuring DUDU MANHENGA - celebrating ZIMBABWEAN TOWNSHIP JAZZ, and the music of Faith Dauti, Jane Chenjerai, Susan Mapfumo and others, along with new originals in the township category!   Also featuring guest artists James Buzuzi (guitar) and Uzanele (vocals).   A series under the Jazz Appreciation project by Pamberi Trust.

FRI 27, 10pm, WILLIS WATAFFI AFIRIKA – World Beat Musik, the Afrikan Experience with his new album ‘Quya Rootz’

SAT 28, 3pm, Magamba presents MASHOKO!!  The Spoken Word Event: a combination of spoken-word poetry, hip-hop and live music to feed the mind and ease the soul. Nothing but positive energy!  Celebrating 2 years, supporting ‘16 Days’.  LIBERATED ENTRY!

 

SAT 28, 10pm, FAITH MANDIPIRA with PABLO & FRENDZ – part 2 of the ‘16 DAYS CONCERT’  joining the global 16 Days of Activism Against Violence Against Women campaign – a new collaboration between long-time jazzists, delivering a performance of great music, also including originals and popular afro standards, and a strong message against violence.

TUE 01, 10pm, CLOSED for WORLD AIDS DAY COMMOMERATION CONCERT at The Book Cafe

WED 02, 6pm, ZIFF in the CLUB presents, “IN RWANDA, WE SAY…”- Anne Aghion, the director, interviews a genocide offender who has been released back into his community and the victims of the genocide. The film follows how at first, the coexistence between the people who instigated the genocide and the victimized people is unbearable. Many of the victims feel rage toward their former oppressors. But gradually, the victims and oppressors start talking to the camera, and then to each other as they start the difficult task of living with each other. FREE, all welcome!
