(The Book Café) SAT 14, 2-5pm, SISTAZ OPEN MIC – A special platform for women artists to come out in the safety of daytime, celebrate their sisterhood, and do their thang!  Music – poetry – dance – whatever – register with the MC before 2pm.

(The Mannenberg) TUE 17, 9pm, The Old School of German Rap MASSIVE TONE – one of Germany’s oldest and most popular hiphop groups – another special treat for young music-lovers of the Zimbabwean capital

FRI 20- SAT 28, INTERNATIONAL IMAGES FILM FESTIVAL FOR WOMEN “Transforming Women” - Screenings at The Mannenberg: 1200, 1500, 1730, and 2000 (See details below)

And coming soon :  Sat 28 November, ’16 Days Concert’ against Violence against Women – hours and hours of great music by Zimbabwean women with a strong message against violence.

FRI 13, 5.30pm, MCINTOSH – Mbira by ‘The Peacemaker’ - Bocapa Xposure 2008 winner ’.

FRI 13, 8pm, MAWUNGIRA ENHARIRA – Mbira: always versatile!

MON 16, 7pm, BOCAPA XPOSURE – Season 2 Winners, Rising stars, PROSPER DEAN, CAROLINE CHIPINDU & CLASSIQUE AFRIQUE

TUE 17, 8pm, HOPE MASIKE & KAKUWE - A fresh fusion of traditional music from Hope Masike (mbira, vocals) and ‘Kakuwe’.


WED 18, 5.30pm, ARTISTS’ VOICES DISCUSSION - “Enlightenment” on Corporate & Legislative issues - Artists sharing information.  Speakers, Dudu Manhenga, Victor Kunonga & Carlos Jay.  Free, All welcome!


WED 18, 8pm, STEVE MAKONI - a great solo entertainer with popular originals and much laughter!


THUR 19, 5.30pm – Gender Forum - WOMEN DEFEATING THE ODDS OF VIOLENCE - chaired by Sally Dura.  In line with the “16 Days of Activism against Violence against Women” campaign, the discussion will focus on issues around gender-based violence.  Free, All welcome!

THE MANNENBERG WEEK

 

THU 12, 6pm,  ‘LINZ PARADE ‘- A Film Screening in celebration of the life and work of the late cultural and human rights activist KEITH GODDARD among BaTonga musicians: ‘PARADE’ – A world music documentary filmed in Linz, Austria in May 2009.   PARADE is a fascinating soundscape from a variety of epochs and different corners of the world - the sounds of antelope horns and percussion from the ngoma buntibe music of Tonga groups ‘Simonga’ (Zimbabwe) and ‘Maliko’ (Zambia); an Austrian oom-pah band and zumari horns from Zanzibar; Swiss alphorn players, strolling xylophonists from West Africa and master drummers from the foothills of the Himalayas.  A n extraordinary collaboration of musicians of the world.  All welcome!
