Jazz Invitation @ Book Café, Sat 12 May 2012, 8pm,
The NEW Book Cafe: 139 Samora Machel Ave, Harare Following the great jazz celebration at the Book Café end April, jazz is alive and well, stronger than ever, with JAZZ INVITATION featuring on Sat 12 May, at the Book Café’s new central venue in the capital. Jazz Invitation is made up of some gifted jazzists led by bassist Kelly Rusike, along with emerging protégées Courtney Rusike and Tina Masawi, this weekend back-to-back with Filbert Marova (keyb) and his fresh new ensemble, ‘BlaQberry’. With diverse flavours of Hot! Jazz from straight traditional and modern jazz to afro, funk and r&b crossovers, their own much-loved originals and a sneak preview of tunes from their second CD Tsoka which is on the brink of release - it’s going to be a red-hot delivery by Jazz Invitation. The new Book Café set-up treats audiences to a double-whammy of jazz, and the show will be opening at 8pm with the relatively new jazz ensemble BLAQBERRY, led by veteran pianist Filbert Marova and featuring Eve Kawaza on vocals. As a long experienced and gifted musician with a long history with jazz in Zimbabwe, and formerly music education at both Prince Edward High School and Zimbabwe College of Music, Filbert has shared the benefit of his experience with many, and is now bringing a younger generation onto the jazz stage with a new flavour - Delicious!
