EVENTS THIS WEEK

Thu 12, 8pm, ALEXIO & Shades of Black, welcoming PRUDENCE Katomeni-Mbofana – WHAT a combination!  Two of Zimbabwe’s greatest voices in an exciting fusion of jazz and urban grooves – one hot double bill!

 

Fri 13, 8pm, CHIWONISO + BA SHUPI – Zimbabwe’s internationally renowned mbira darling Chiwoniso Maraire has been embracing crossovers with diverse genres of late, fitting easily and comfortably in with jazz and rock alike, and for this show shares her stage with charismatic showman BA SHUPI and maybe his upcoming hit humorous social commentary “Mukwasha ne ma gitara” (musicians for sons-in-law)!

 

Sat 14, 2pm, House of Hunger POETRY SLAM – BACK WITH A BANG!  The longest-running poetry platform in Zimbabwe which has seen the emergence of gifted poets, rappers and lyricists over the years – a space for everyone – now slamming for the first time in the new! Book Cafe.  Poets welcome, register with MC before 2pm.

 

Sat 14, 9pm, AFRO ROCK REGGAE with ‘BONGO LOVES  MOKOOMBA’, CHIKWATA.263 and MATTHIAS JULIUS + X-VYBZ – Some of Zimbabwe's hottest young talent, already making waves in the world: an exciting new collaboration between former Music Crossroads winners Bongo Love and Mokoomba, tried and tested on the international tour circuit; Zimbabwe's first mbira-punk band Chikwata.263 featuring Hector Mugani and Tom Brickhill, and conscious reggae from Matthias Julius

Mon 16, 6pm, BOOK CAFÉ OPEN MIC – hosted by comedian ‘Q The Boss’, with a special feature by emcees from ‘The Circle’ – all artists welcome! 

 

Tue 17, 7pm, COMEDYNIGHT with comedy kings from the City of Kings, welcoming - all the way from Bulawayo – the Guys from Skies - CLIVE CHIGUBU and NTANDO, and the music of JEYS MARABINI: a lively affair! 

 

Wed 18, 8pm, Weddy INDEPENDENCE Special – MIC INITY in a great new space to do, feel, touch, savour the lovaz rock reggae of Mic and the Hotta Fyah band – hotta than eva befo!

 

Thu 19, 8pm, RHYMEZ I WROTE – the ‘Open Mind Open Mic Show’ with BA SHUPI, DIZZY DON and MATTHIAS JULIUS & X-VYBZ

 

Fri 20, 8pm, NYAMASVISVA neMAWUNGIRA ENHARIRA, part of the Harare landscape and on top of their game, enjoying the wide new Book Café stage to deliver a mesmerizing spotlight performance of dance and drumming in the true tradition, opening with GORE & MAZANA MOVEMENT.

 

Sat 21, 3.30pm, MASHOKO! THE SPOKEN WORD EVENT: Zimbabwe's leading regular spoken word and hip hop event where free expression meets heavy social message, with an urban Zimbabwean backdrop and international appeal!  Brought to you by Magamba Cultural Activists Network - FREE, all welcome 

 

Sat 21, 8pm, Roots Rock Reggae veterans TRANSIT CREW delighting reggae-lovers for decades, the Zimbabwean band-of-choice to back top visiting international reggae artists, holding steady with Samaita Zindi (guitar), Munya Nyemba (bass) and Liba Amon (keys), and nurturing new talent with the up&coming reggae singer ‘Sello Kalcha’.
